1 Friday, May 17. (Before J. 0. Crawford, Esq., E.M.); DRUNKENNESS. John Smith, tor being drunk and disorderly, was fined 205., or iu default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. ! ' LARCENY. . ■ David Twidley, on remand, was charged with stealing a bag of sugar from the barque Edwin Bassett, valued at 255. Mr. Olivier appeared for the prosecution, and Mr. Gordon Allan defended the prisoner, who said that, by the departure of the barque, the prisoner was unable toball witnesses. *No further evidence : would ’be adduced, but be contended' from the prisoner's 'statement that he (prisoner) ■ was the owner of' the sugar. There was no evidence to show that the sugar was not missed from the vessel, and he asked his Worship to dismiss the case. Mr. Crawford thought that the theft was clearly proved, and 'sentenced prisoner to six months’hard labor. / • • VAGRANCY. Allen Lewi, an Italian, was charged with vagrancy. Prisoner stated that he arrived here by the barque Carnatic, and had done several weeks’ work about the wharf, but that lately he had been unable to obtain work. ■ ■ Xlis Worship remanded him for a week. ; ,'v :i J ; CIVIL OASES.
