SPECIAL TO MELBOURNE ARGUS. : London, April 15. The Paris Exhibition is in a forward state. The exhibits are freely coming in. Great preparations are being made to get everything in readiness for the opening day. The whole of the Australian exhibits have arrived and are being unpacked. They have arrived in good order. The Prince of Wales goes to Paris on the 25th. (REUTER'S SPECIAL TO PRESS AGENCY.) DESPERATE FIGHTING AT THE CAPE. London, April 15. There has been desperate fighting in the Transvaal, and the situation is serious. Constantinople, April 14. The Russians require the Turks to evacuate Shumla and Varna without delay. The Servian army is being disbanded. THE SITUATION THREATENING. ANTI-ENGLISH FEELING IN RUSSIA. THE PORTE WILL DEFEND CONSTANTINOPLE. London, April 16. The situation is less hopeful. St. Petersburg, April 15. The anti-English tone of popular feeling is increasing. Constantinople, April 15. The Porte has ordered that resistance should be made to any attempt to occupy Constantinople, and refuses to sanction Austrian occupation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
Sydney, Tuesday. The City of New York arrived on Sunday night. The inquiry into the stranding of the Chimborazo has been concluded. The Board found that the causes were the fault of the captain, in steering too close to the shore, and of the third mate, in neglecting precautions during a fog.
