RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

. Tcrsu.vr, Makch 5. A middle-aged man named Lawrence Stewart, brought up on a charge of having been drunk and disorderly, was fined ss. or twentyfour hours’ imprisonment. Mary Nugent was brought up on a similar charge. Jt seemed she had only been a week out of gaol, and as she begged hard for another chance, his Worship let her off with a caution. There was a further charge against the unfortunate accused of damaging property to the extent of £2, belonging to one Henry Archer, but the Bench pointed out that if a fine was inflicted the judgment might operate towards preventing recovery in a civil action, and under the circumstances the case was therefore dismissed.
