COMPENSATION COURT.
Tuesday, March 5. (Before his Honor the Ch ef Justice, W. M. Bannatyne, Esq., and Captain Thomas.) STEWART V. THE CORPORATION. Iu this case the claimant, Mr. Stewart, sought to recover compensation for land belonging to him which the , Corporation had taken in connection with the formation of Guba-street. Mr. Izard appeared on behalf of the claimant, and Mi-. Travers for the Corporation. . In opening his case, Mr. Izard stated that the City Corporation, being desirous of making a continuation f Cnba-street, applied to the Governor for the necessary powers, and the laud now in question is land which was taken under the provisions of the Public Works Act, ,by proclamation dated 22nd of August, 1877. , The land was of considerable value, having a frontage to. Manners-street on the one side, and to the harbor on the other. The necessary notice had been served upon the City Council embodying the claim, and the Council had agreed. to give the claimant £2050, which he deemed insufficient. Of the claim of £7133 6s. Bd., a sum of £SOO was for a part of the land not taken, but injuriously affected by the action of the Corporation in respect to the main pofSon. Kvidence was taken as to the value of the land in question, to show that the claim was reasonable. The Court adjourned at 4.30 o’clock until to-day at H o’clock, when it is expected that the award of the Court will be made.- ,
