Henry Richardson was apprehended at Timaru yesterday for passing several forged cheques on Christchurch shopkeepers. Quam Yan, a Chinaman, charged with rape, was further remanded to-day, in order to procure an interpreter. The Dunedin immigrants per Wanganui were all landed to-d»y, and most of them have been already engaged. At the Drainage Board meeting to-day the Chairman stated that nothing further had been heard from Mr. Clarke, the engineer. It was stated that several cases of illness might bo traced to adulterated milk, and it was recommended to the Board to have a clause
inserted into the Public Health Act, so as to have strict supervision over dairies. At the same meeting the powers of the Board of Health were, so far as the city is concerned, re-transferred to the City Council. Dunedin, Friday.
Bishop Neville leaves for England by the ship Otaki to-morrow. At the conclusion of a confirmation service in St. Paul's Church last night, the Bishop was presented with an address wishing Mrs. Neville and himself G-od-apeed. Bishop Neville goes Home to attend the Lambeth Conference, and will return in a few months. The Hon. the Minister for Public Works and Mr. Carmthers arrived here to-day. Mr. Larnach stated at Palmerston South that the main trunk line would be open from Moeraki to Palmerston in six weeks. Invercargill, Friday. Messrs. Martin, Maitland, and Co. sold at auction to-day the Benmore station, including 18,518 acres freehold, 21,855 acres leasehold, and 1500 sheep, to Mr, Mabin Wyndh&m, at £24,500. There was a large attendance of capitalists.
