Tho Turks have now evacuated all their fortresses. A Berlin telegram states that Gortchakoff has notified the Powers that consequent upoa England sending a part of her fleet to Stamhoul to protect the Christians, Russia will occupy the shore defences, with the same object. The troops have defeated the Kaffirs, inflioting heavy loss. Lord Donoughmore has been appointed Under-Secretary to the Colonies. SPECIAL TELEGRAM. London, 10th Feb. The Austrian Press regards tho situation as critical. Russia’s reply to Austria objects to the discussion on certain points in the peace preamble, also to tho limitations proposed by Austria. AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney, Tuesday. Tho match, Combined Fifteen against the Australian Eleven, will be played in Sydney on tho Ist, 2nd, and 4th March. A public meeting has passed a resolution condemning assisted immigration, and has adopted a petition to Parliament on the subject. Melbourne, Tuesday. In tho Assembly Mr. Barry has given notice of motion that tho House at its rising should adjourn to the 3rd March, A supporter of the Government has given notice of motion for reinstating all dismissed officials when the finances are set free.
