REGATTA MEETING.

A meeting of the Regatta Committee was held last evening at the Pier Hotel; G. Hunter, Esq., M.H.R., in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman said he thought some acknowledgment should be made to the secretary, who had taken a great deal of work and trouble on himself ; , Indeed, without Mr. Eilaby there would have , been no regatta at all. In all these matters the work fell usually upon one or two, and in this case Mr. Eliaby had done the greater part of the work. Mr. Quick concurred, and after some discussion it was resolved that £ls should be voted to Mr. Eliaby as an acknowledgment of his services. Mr. Eliaby (who had left.the room during the discussion) said he heartily thanked the committee forthe vote. When heundertook thesecnotaryship it was with no idea of making anything out of the affair, but be had done his best to bring it to a successful issue, and was glad that his efforts had met with approval. He wished to say that he was very much indebted to Mr. Batkin, who had very materially assisted to the success of the regatta. The secretary laid before the committee a balance sheet showing a surplus of about £l6, which might be increased if all the subscriptions wer« got in. Vouchers were produced for the payments made. Exception was taken to one account, arid it was reduced from £9 10s. to £B. Thanks were voted to the office-bearer* and all who had taken part in the late regatta, and the meeting then separated.
