CHRISTIANITY v. INFIDELITY.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —Mr. Harrington’s letter in your Issue of to-day requires from me no rejoinder, but I accord it a line ere I depart, as a mark of special favor, and in order to assist him in his evident desire to keep his name before the public of Wellington. I have been an occasional reader of the “National Reformer,” but have never seen the other periodicals named by him, preferring to base my freethought views on the works of writers like Spinoza, Fichte, Volney, D’ Holbach, Strauss, Theodore Parker, Greg, Newman, and Herbert Spsuoer. Still, I have no doubt the publications he mentions are doing valuable work, amidst which I cheerfully concede the fact that they have given publicity and importance to the name of "Thomas Harrington.” Further, I may say that I never attack Christianity, as I regard it as a beautiful system of social morality and brotherly love. I attack the creeds which call themselves Christian, and the people who, for the sake of a comfortable living in this befooled world, uphold those creeds. And now, as the hour for my departure for Dunedin approaches, I must, however reluctantly, leave Mr. Thomas Warrington [sic] to his “apologetic lectures.”—l am, &0.,c Charles Bright.
