(PER PRESS AGENCY. 1 Grahamstown, Wednesday.. Mr.- Alley, who arrived at Ohiuemuri on Sunday overland from Napier, with 1500 sheep, has been stopped at Komata by the native chief Takukingi. An order of the Supreme Court was ohtained.yesterday for the institution of criminal proceedings against David Hamilton, : bankrupt, for concealing a portion of his estate. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. : A fire occurred in Elliott-atreet this morning in Francis’s crockery store. It is supposed to have been caused by heated damp straw. Owing to the prompt measures which were taken the fire was confined to the upper storey, where two firemen worked courageously with respirators amidst dense, damp, and overpowering smoke unknown to their comrades. When their safety was in danger they knocked on the upper floor, apprising those below. Tbe building and stock were insured for £Bl4 in the New Zealand Company. The damage is ertimated at about £IOO. Mr. Samuel Hesketh has been admitted a solicitor of the Supreme Court. Dunedin, Wednesday. The “New Zealand Churchman” is said to have changed hands. Bishop Neville having disposed of his interest to the Rev. Mr. Stanford. Roberts, the champion billiard-player, is playing here with very poor success.
