THE OPERA.

UN BALLO IN MASCHEEA. This opera was repeated on Saturday evening, and gave the greatest satisfaction to all present,, amongst whom were his Excellency the Marquis of Nonnanby and suite. The performance was a thoroughly enjoyable one, each of the artists securing a large amount of applause. This evening Rossini's grand opera “ Mose iu Egitto,” which has been in active rehearsal during the company’s stay in Wellington, will be performed for the first time in this city. As it contains some of the most beautiful melodies and choruses which are to be found in the writings of this gifted composer we will confidently recommend it. The quartette and duets are -specially grand, and judging from the- rehearsals, will cahse this opera to.be as much sought after as the other new operas, “Aida” and “Lohengrin,” which have been so successful in drawing immense audiences.. It is an opera also beyond the capabilities of most travelling companies, therefore we say accept theopportunitybeforeitis too late. “Aida” is to be repeated on Tuesday evening, at the special request of many of our leadinocitizens who, owing to the excessive crowding of the Theatre Royal on its last representation, have been unable to witness it a second time. Thus the management have incurred both extra expense and labor in order to meet the wishes of their patrons, which we are surethey will have no cause to regret. Signor Paladini will on this occasion take the part of Radames, which was formerly • entrusted to Signor Camero. If not considered beyond our path, we would suggest to Signor Paladini tbe. advisability of singing the avia “Celeste Aida,” which was omitted on each of the previous performances of this opera. If our suggestion is accepted, we are sure that it will receive excellent treatment by Signor Paladini, and prove a rich musical treat to his many admirers.
