PAHAUTANUI.

(from our own correspondent.) A cricket match was played at Pahautanui on Boxing Day between an eleven of the Star Cricket Chib and an eleven of the Pahautanui Club. Mr. Armitage was captain of the Stars, and Mr. Iggulden of the Pahautanui team. The Stars having won the toss, sent their opponents to the wickets. The game was well contested throughout, but it resulted in a victory for the Stars, with two wickets to fall. Unfortunately for himself and the Stars, Mr. Bussell hurt his hand in the early part of the game, and it was decided for him not to play in the first innings, but he took the field, and went to the wickets in the second innings. The Stars are indebted for tbe principal part of their score to Armitage, Eorlham, Glasson, Howe, and Turner, and the Pahautamiis to lomildcn, Given, Rose, Harris, Boulton, and Jones. The howling and fielding generally were good on both sides. There were only four wide bails given in the whole game. Perhaps there were more byes than there should have been, but that was owing chiefly to the rough ground. Howe and London deserve praise for two catches which they made. They each had a tumble over the rough ground, but they stuck to the ball. The day was beautifully fine, and a great many spectators were present, amongst them a goodly number of the fair sex, who appeared to take an interest in the game. After the play was over, the Pahautanui team entertained the Stars to a good substantial tea at Hillen’a hotel, and a dance in the schoolroom in the evening. The town team left about eleven o’clock, apparently well satisfied with the day they had spent. ‘pahautanui. First Innings Second Innings. TV. Toppln, b Glasson .. 0 b Armitage .. 4 G.
