THE OPERA.
Tha Royal Italian Opera Comp my will open their season with the production of Verdis cver-popular and welcome “ II Trovatoro ” at the Theatre Royal this evening. According to the opinion which has on all occasions been formed concerning the talents and abilities of this company, at may he safe to predict a firand rendering of all the most favorite operas of modern composers. The prima donna. Signora A. Gnadagnini, has, according to Southern files, already proved herself one of the most accomplished vocalists and actresses that has ever appeared in grand opera in New Zealand, She will be supported on her first appearance this evening by Signora Venosta, who possesses a voice of rare quality and compass, and also instils great dramatic force into her acting. Signori Paladini and Gambetti, as Manrico and the Count respectively, will also make their first appearance before a Wellington audience. The orchestra, composed of about a dozen performers, is under the guidance of Moos. Canon, who is said to be one of the best violinists who has ever visited Australia, An opportunity will probably be afforded of heaving him as a soloist oa the violin, and also Signor Ceschina on the contra-basso. Signor Nobili has fully determined upon closing the subscription lists after to-day, when the general public will be able to secure tickets. Intending subscribershad therefore better bestir themselves before it is too late. The stalls under the present management will be carefully relieved from those annoyances which on previous occasions have prevented them being so well patronised as they otherwise would be. All things taken into consideration, a successful season may be expected.
