CRICKET.

CIVIL SERVICE V. TOWN. An interesting game of cricket was played on Saturday afternoon on the Basin Reserve between the Civil Service and the Town. There was a good mu-ter of spectators. I lie Town went first to the wickets, I. J. Salmon and Kember going to the bowling of Armitage and Willis. The bowling being off the wicket, the scores came rapidly, the last wicket falling for 120 runs. Messrs. J. A. Salmon, Robinson, and Fordham contributed greatly to the scores, making 27, 27, and 17 respectively. The fielding of the Civil Service was very bad, no less than 29 extras being scored. At , i o’clock the Civil Service sent Kennedy and Lynch to the bowling of the Salmon brothers, when it was very soon evident that the bowling was too good to allow of any liberties being taken. Wicket after wicket fell, and the Civil Service were all out in half-an-bour for 33, no high scores being made. The fielding and bowling of the Town was a great improvement on that of the Civil Service. The Civil Service were sent to the wickets again, Knapp and Russell handling the willow and, the Salmon brothers the leather. Runs came fast, and the Civil Service were not disposed of till 96 had been scored. The fielding and bowling of the Town team were not ao good as in tho first innings. Time being called, the Town team won on the first innings by 87 runs. The following are the scores :
