THE HUTT AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
SECOND DAY. There was a very fair attendance of thepublic on Thursday, the events (if the term be permissible) to be decided on the second day of the show being sheepshearing and a leaping match. In the first the competition, as the judges remarked, did not reflect credit upon, those concerned, the fleeces being hacked off anyhow, and the sheep looking afterwards as if they had been shorn with a carving knife and fork. In addition, the competitors appeared to be hungry, as not a few of them cut decent * sized mutton chops off the unfortunate animals submitted to their hands. A pen of sheep exhibited by Mr. Gear, recently shorn at Messrs. Currie and Moore’s station, north of Wanganui, and which took a prize at the last Wanganui show, were admirable examples of how sheep should be shorn, and showed the proper way of doing it. The leaping match was chiefly remarkable for the excellent jumping of the winner, and for the anxiety displayed by the rider of a losing horse to get over the fence before his mount, which kindly refrained from interfering with him, and let him carry out his desires/ 1 The following is the authentic prize list of the exhibition : HOUSES.
