The question of a water supply for the city was discussed at a meeting of the City Council last night. It was adjourned for a week. TimauU, Tuesday. At a meeting of the South Canterbury Jockey Club last evening it was decided to accept Mr. Duvall’s plan of a grand stand, to be built of bluestouo and brick. The programme of the races will be issued on the 3rd .December. A meeting was called for last night to consider what steps should be taken for holding a regatta in the harbor, but it fell through. This was the second attempt to call a meeting for the same object. Auckland, Tonsday. ; The returning officer declared Larkins disqualified as uot on the roll. Brett, proprietor of the Star, is therefore Mayor for the ensuing year. Invercargill, Tuesday. Levy's first concert has been postponed till this evening. The Acclimatisation Society had recently several thousand.young .trout in the garden, but on proceeding to arrange for their distribution throughout the province,* none could be found. The curator, though, admitting he could not .'see how.the trout could possibly escape, was unable to explain the deficiency, and was dismissed. Kum aha, Monday. Mr, Richard John Seddon was elected Mayor of Kumara to-day. There was uo other nomination.
