Small lots have been quitted at auction at £l7 and £l7 5s per ton, and wo report the sale of a line of 100 tons privately at £l6 per ton within the last day or so Stocks are only moderately ample, but we hear of a shipment of 300 tons being on the way, and as prices in the Australian colonies have given way to an extent hardly anticipated, there can be no doubt that in the New Zealand markets quotations must bo much lower daring the next three or four months, as our own harvest lias yet to come in, and prices down South have already given way to a considerable extent. , . , . , Fruits (duty, Id per lb.)-The demand for dried fruits has been only moderate, and prices remain without any alteration. Oilmen's Stores (duty, 10 per cent.)—Oilmen s stores are overstocked and difficult to place. Rice (duty, id per lb.)—Full stocks at £26 to £23 per ton. Spirits (duty, 12s per gallon).—There has been the usual business doing in spirits during the month, but we can report no improvement in quotations, owing to the stocks of every kind being so far beyond our requirements, while the desire to effect sales keeps down prices. Good sound wines meet with favor, and sell at a fair profit to the importer. colonial produce. Butter — l There has been absolutely no inquiry for salt butter during the month, and quantities are spoiling in the dealers' hands. Fair quality is nominally quoted at Cd to 7d per lb, but v/e hear of no sales. Maiy of the curers now regret they did not accept a fair price three months ago ; and, although we doubt it, we hope the lesson may prove a salutary Ol ßacon and Hams.—Full stocks of Canterbury-cured, with sales at prices varying from 4d to 8d and 9d Overstocked, and difficult of sale at 8d per lb. • Flour.—The price of Canterbury and Oamaru flour has become easier, and holders now ask £ls to £IG per ton.
