(PEE PEE3S AGENCY.) Dunedin, Friday. The reply of S. W. Thompson, President of the Otago Convention, to Earl Carnarvon’s despatch of 28th June, is published in the Daily Times this morning. He states it is his intention to lay an extract of it before the executive committee of the convention. The reply, which is a long one, is of the argumentative kind, and defends the course pursued by the convention. A well-known Princes-street firm has been summoned to appear at the Police Court tomorrow to answer a charge of breach of the Female Employment Act, 1876. Instructions have been received from the Public Works Office to-day to at once proceed with the detailed survey of the Strath Taieri railway. Napiee, Friday. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt here last night at 8.48. Port Chalmers, Friday. The water hose office and the material, belonging to the Port Chalmers Corporation, were seized this afternoon at the suit of Mr. McDermid’s family, for damages granted by Mr. Bathgate, R.M., for trespass. Lyttelton, Friday. Captain Thomas, of the ketch Unity, from Pelorua Sound, reports that when six miles off Stoneyhurst he passed some wreckage, consisting of a hatch, two spars, and the galley of a vessel of from thirty to forty tons. The galley was square, and the hatch painted stone-color. Timaru, Friday. The Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association Show next week promises to be a grand success. There are 424 entries of sheep, and 310 others. Last year there were only 599.
