HORSE RACING.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sin, —I think it strange that some members of our Representative, Assembly should so scold at the old English sport of horse racing as it seems they did yesterday. Without dwelling on the good or bad taste of so doing, I think they should bear in mind that the sport so cherished by our ancestors in the old country is in its infancy here in New Zealand, and requires to be upheld instead of being snubbed. I venture to predict that years hence it will flourish, when such detractors have long passed away and been forgotten.—l am, &c., An Old Country Settler. Wellington, October 17.
