The Russians were driven beyond the frontier. Bombarding eastward of Plevna continues. PROPOSED PURCHASE OF CABLES. London, October 1. The Times reports that the Australian Governments were negotiating for the purchase of the Eastern Extension Company’s cables from Singapore. The proposal has been declared premature by Michie and Vogel. The Northumberland sailed to-day.
