The Legislative Council having postponed' the consideration of the Land Tax Bill till the 26th, the Assembly, on the motion of the Government, adjourned till the 27th. The Opposition objected to this course, but were overruled by a large majority. The Crunch passed the Railway Construction Bill after undergoing material alteration. Colonel Ward has resigned as Deputy Master of the Mint. He will probably be succeeded by Colonel Soratchley. Sir ffm, Jervois and Sir W. C. Robinson are both in Melbourne at present. There is some prospect of the Italian Opera Troupe visiting New Zealand. Two pure shorthorn bulls have been shipped by the s.s. Hero for Mr. T. S. Morrin, of Auckland. A murder has been committed near Rushworth. One Kelly, a miner, shot Parkinson, another miner, during some dispute about money matters. The Lusitania left here a full ship as to both passengers and cargo. The ship Macduff, on the passage out, was run into by the ship Belfast, bound to India, She was also dismasted iu a gale. The weather here has been very hot and dry, but there has been a copious rainfall in the New South Wales and Riverina districts. An equity suit—Aarons v. Lewis—in reference to a dispute over the Academy of Music, has beeu commenced. Mr. Oreswick is still drawing very good, houses. Business is dull.
