TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —Considering (recording to the telegram from the Agent-General) several New Zealand people were on board the Avalanche, I venture to suggest that places of business, wholesale and retail, and as far as possible private houses also, appear with closed doors and drawn blinds to-day and Sunday, as a mark of respect to the sufferers in what may be with propriety termed a public calamity.—l am, &c..
