CAMBRIDGE LOCAL EXAMINATIONS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE HEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir,— Mr. Barron’s note respecting the “local examination” papers is j unsatisfactory as an answer on that point as Mr. Wilson’s was about the respective standards of the “ local ” and our own University examinations. ' I will hear repeat my question; “It •would also be interesting know what his own connection precisely is with the papers of this local examination ? Do they now or did they on any previous occasion remain in or pass through his (Mr, Wilson s) hands ? This is surely definite enough, and unless there is something to conceal Mr. Wilson should not refrain from personally answering it, as he has done. Anyone will, see that Mr. Barron does not at all say that these papers never on any occasion were in Mr. Wilsons custody or passed through his hands. I have oood reason for presisng this point, and nothin" short of Mr. Wilson’s own explanation ■will satisfy me. Truly, I say again it is difficult to get out anything about this highly privileged institution. Not a word about the promised £ISOO. Well, my own belief now, after the amount of unsatisfactory evasion of my queries, is that the standard of this local examination is not one particle higher or better than the standard of our University ; but I must infer that Mr. Wilson, for some unexplained reason, finds this local examination more suitable to his purposes than the University examinations, and that other people find it.less so. I may be wrong, but it is decidedly the impression now remaining in my mind. — I am, &c., Inquirer. Wellington, September 14.
