The schooner Clio, from Lyttelton, grounded on the North Spit when being towed in this morning. A portion of the cargo was discharged, and the vessel is expected to get off on this evening’s tide. The barque Primera cleared out at the Customs yesterday for London, and will sail, weather favorable, to-day. The value of her cargo—a summary of which we published a few days ago—is estimated at £32,909, Messrs. Krull and Co., N. Edwards and Co., Murray, Common, and Co,, Fell Bros., Kinross and Co., and James Gear being the largest shippers. The p.s. Manawatn arrived from Wanganui at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. She left there the previous day at 7.15 p.m, ; crossed the bar at 8 p.m., and experienced strong westerly winds down. There was a very heavy sea on the bar, and the schooner Aspasia was inside waiting till it moderated to get out for Pelorns Sound. The Manawatu shipped a very large cargo here yesterday, and sailed at 6 p.m. for Wanganui. The Union Co.'s s.s. Hawea, Captain Wheeler, arrived from the South at 10.30 a.m. yesterday. She left Dunedin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday; arrived at Lyttelton at 9 a.m. on Thursday; sailed same day at 6.30 p.m., and arrived as above. Experienced strong head wind up. The Hawea left for the North at 3 o'clock this morning. ' The Lyttelton, from Blenheim, arrived in port yesterday morning. Sie will return thither to-day. The St. Kilda left for the South at 1 p.m. yesterday, A Christchurch contemporary says that intelligence has been received that the barque Australian Sovereign, from Newcastle, bound to Lyttelton, was dismasted in a heavy gale, and had to put back. The ketch Catiin is on her way from the Bluff to this pert with a cargo of timber. On the authority of a Dunedin paper it is stated that Captain Lloyd, late of the steamer Wellington, and a seaman of many years’ experience, has entered upon a new sphere of action, by abandoning a sea life, and joining the Civil Service of the colony. lie is now a railway employe, and holds the position of station master at Chertsey, Canterbury. The s.s. Tararua, from Melbourne and Hobarton, via the South, is expected to arrive here to-morrow morning. The steamers Jane Douglas for Foxton and Kennedy for Nelson and West Coast sailed at 5.30 p.m, yesterday. The s.s. Taranaki, from Auckland, via the East Coast, is expected to arrive here to-morrow. The Tui, from Kaikoura and Lyttelton, will arrive here this evening. The p.s. Luna loft Lyttelton at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, and arrived here last evening, after a twentyfour hours’ passage. She will leave for Westport and Greymouth to-day, for. which ports she has a full cargo of produce. The s.s. Napier left Blenheim at 3,20 p.m yesterday, and arrived in port at 10.30 p.m. She will sail for Blenheim again this evening.
