TE ARO RECLAMATION.
’ The polling for and against the proposal to reclaim the Te Aro foreshore • was -taken on August 6. ' The number of votes recorded was not .large, which might have been expected, as, it was generally understood that a very large majority of the ratepayers all along favbred ‘.'the project/' and consequently, numbers,; feeling ./certain as to the* result, would not deemiit worth while taking, the trouble’to record . their votes. It is worthy of remark that in Te Aro, where naturally, the polling was strongest, there was only one vote against the proposal, there being 182 in favor of it. In Thorndon very fe v votes were recorded, and the result, as will lie s;en from the appended table, was sixty-six for and fifty-four 5 against the proposed reclamation; but in no other ward was the polling s» even. The poll, which commenced at 9 o’clock, closed at 6 o’clock, arid the returns from the different booths were as follows ;—- , Wards: For. Agamst. Thorndon 66 54 Lambtou • .. ■ ■ ... .. 154.
