The Union Company's steamship Wakatipu arrived in port from Sydney at 7 o’clock yesterday morning. She is somewhat behind time, consequent upon having experienced a series pf fresh head winds with very heavy easterly sea. She left Sydney at 5 p.m, on the 2Stb nit., and cleared the Heads, at 5.40_ p.m., with a moderate south-west breeze, which continued till the evening of the 29th, when a fresh south-east breeze came up. wttb very heavy sea, and. continued so till she arrived in harbor as above-stated. We are indebted to Air. Newman, purser, for Sydney flies and report. The Wakatipu has 200 tons general cargo and a quantitv of coal for this port. Wallace, Captain Dillon, from Nelson and AVest Coast ports, arrived in port at 1.30 a.m. yesterday She left Nelson at 8 o’clock the previous night, and experienced fine weather throughout. The AVallace will sail for Nelson and West Coast ports this afternoon at 3 o’clock. . .. . ; The s.s. Stella sailed early this morning on a mission North to the lighthouses. She was first to visit The Brothers, land some stores, &c., and take away a quantity of gear used in the erection of the lighthouse there for the North thence she will go to Jlana, land stares, and proceed to Cape Farewell light, where ■ stores, oil. &c., are to be put ashore: then she will go on to the Mannkau. where a cargo of kauri timber, bricks, &0.. will be shipped, to be used in the erection of thenewligbthouseon Cape Maria Van Diemen, and she will be engaged there fpr some time landing material for the lighthouse, and may probably make a trip back to the Manukau, ■ From Cape Alaria Van Diemen she will steam to AVellington.
