It is reported that the Porte declines to throwopenthe Dardanelles to any Power unless it will support Turkey against Russia. The British Ambassador at St. Petersburg remonstrated against the sinking of a vessel in the Danube and thereby impeding navigation; Ministerial journals in England state that British interests forbid the entry of the Bus* sians into Stamboul, and urge the Government to declare that such is the case without delay. It is believed that Redif Raouf is dismissed, as Suliman Bey now commands the Turkish, army in Bulgaria. Forty eight battalions have disembarked at Salonica. Safvet Pasha has been appointed Minister of Public Works. Mehemet Ali succeeds Abdul Kerim as Commander-in-Chief. Abdul Kerim has been dismissed, and Safvet Pasha has resigned. : The reports of Russian atrocities are semiofficially denied; , All the available Turkish troops at .Stamboul are ordered to Adrianople. ; The Russians have occupied Nicepolis, and the Russian headquarters have been removed to Tirnova. The number of Russians who have crossed the Balkans is over-estimated. Russian despatches state that after crossing the Balkans the vanguard marched to Kesamik, whilst the Cossacks occupied Eslc Saghra. The San Francisco mails have been delivered. The following telegram has been received by the Government from the Agent-General:— London, July 18. The Russians captured Nicopolis, with but alight loss. Two Pashas, 6000 prisoners, and 40 guns were taken. They continue crossing the Danube, and have passsd the principal pass of the Balkans. ! The Russian head quarters are at Tirnora. They command the bridges on one side and the Balkans on the other. 1 The Grand Duchess attended the Russian wounded at Alexandropol.
