The inquiry rc the Feronia was held to-day- J* J* Mitcheson White deposed that the vessel was well ballasted. She arrived at Kaipara on the morning of 16th May. She had never been in the Kaipara before. The tide was running five knots, and the vessel going four knots ; wind S. or E., or both, but it suddenly shifted round. Reduced sail. He was steering, and the chief mate was at the forecastle, and the second mate was at the braces. He ordered anchor to be let go, but it was not done at the tune. He did not think the ship could have been saved if the anchor had been let go. It was no time before the vessel touched. If the anchor had been let go at the time, the bows might have torn out. He did not see the semaphore working. The vessel stranded in 8 feet. The pilot came two hours and a half after the stranding. The crew were competent. The inquiry was adjourned. The s.s. Hawea proceeded for Northern ports at 12.20 p.m. yesterday. _ . , TT , The departure of the steamer Tm forloxton has been postponed till this evening. The ketch Falcon is announced to sad for Blenheim this afternoon. The s.s. 'apier sailed for Foxton yesterday evening at 8 o’clock. , _ ~ The schooners Endeavour for Oaraarn and Julius Vogel for Picton sailed yesterday morning. Captain Fairchild, of the s.s. Hinemoa, has reported the existence of the undermentioned dangers in Dusky Sound, which are not marked in the Admiralty chart Facile Harbor—A ledge of rocks with about Oft of water on it in the centre of the entrance to the Cove in the north-east side of Facile Harbor. Duck Cove—A sunken rock on the eastern side; distance from Porpoise Point, about oue-third of a mile west by north, with about Cft of water on it at low The steamers Manawatu and Stormbird arrived from Wanganui yesterday afternoon ; the former at 12.25, and the latter at 12.10. The Stormbird made the passage in twelve hours ten minutes, and the Manawatu in twelve hours thirty-five minutes. Both steamers are advertised to leave again for V anganui this evening. Sailed again at 9 p.m. on the 30lh with a light S.W. wind, which increased to a gale, and the Rangatira had to run in to Castlepoint for shelter, remaining there nine hours. Sailed again at 11 p.m. on the 31st, and thence experienced variable winds and fine weather till arrival here as stated above. , . The p.s. Luna arrived in port from Greymouth at 7 am. yesterday. She left there at noon on the 30th, and experienced heavy beam sea till Cape Farewell was rounded at 11.30 a.m. on the 31st; thence till arrival variable winds. The Luna will sail, it is expected, for Westport and Greymouth this evening. A barque from the northward was signalled yesterday afternoon. The Government steamer Stella will go round to the Patent Slip this morning to receive a cleaning and painting. The s.s. Hinemoa arrived from Kaipara yesterday at 1 p.m. after a very smart run of 27 hours. She landed the steam launch known as the “ perfect failure” at Kaipara, and it is stated that it will be about as useful there as It was at Wellington. We hope, at any rate, that it will not have to virit the slip as often as it had to here, for in fact while in this port it was quite amphibious in its habits
