Auckland, Thursday. The inquest on the alleged poisoning of a woman who died in her confinement was continued to-day. The evidence showed that not a trace of poison was discovered in the body. Death was caused by a rupture of the uterus. Taopo, Thursday. The winter has fairly set in. It is bitterly cold, and there were squalls and heavy rain yesterday and to-day. The surveyors were driven in from Ngarnroro and Mohaka on account of the rain. The rivers are flooded. European speculators are here negotiating for native runs at Tuhua and west of Tongariro. Wanganui, Thursday. The Marlborough Racing Club have endorsed the disqualification of Fishhook and Derrett. James O'Sullivan has been drowned at the Pelorus. A squall upset his boat. Grkymouth, Thursday. The Golden Fleece Extended returns 9040 z. of smelted gold for the month, value £3480 15s. A dividend of £24oo—equal to Is. per 48,000 th scrip—has been declared. Chmstohokch, Thursday. Mr. George Gould has presented to the Museum a fine collection of ceramic art and a full length copy of a portrait of Captain Cook which hangs in Greenwich Hospital. Signor and Signorita Mageroui are announced to appear shortly at the theatre. Dunedin, Thursday. A special meeting of the Harbor Board was held to-day to consider the dock question. The engineer reported that if a site were wanted it would involve an extra expenditure of £27,000. The consideration of the question was adjourned for a week ; but a compromise will, it is understood, be effected by having the dock at the south side of Stuart-street.
