RIFLE MATCH.

The rifle match for the annual prizes between the Kaiwana and Pahautanui Volunteers took place on Tuesday. The conditions were Ranges, 200, 400, and 500 yards ; five shots at each range ; 2s. fid. entrance fee. There were 39 competitors, 24 from Pahautanui and 15 from Kaiwarra. Each company fired on its own range. The Kaiwarra men were commanded by Lieutenant Yeatts, and the Pahautanu; men by Captain Bradey. Drill-Inspector Bell acted as scrutineer for the Kaiwarra Company and Captain Taylor for Pahautanui. The day was unfavorable at both ranges for shooting, the wind greatly militating against good scores being made. The following are the prize-takers :

The range prizes were won as follows : —4OO yards, C. Hodges, 10s.; 500 yards, Sub-Lieut. Harris. Ids. £. White and H. Jones divided the 200 yards prize, not being able to decide the tie without firing off.
