CANTERBURY CONFERENCE OF TEACHERS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. S lKi _-As for some unexplained reason I did not receive an intimation of the teachers meeting on Saturday, I sent the following resolutions for proposal and discussion at the Canterbury conference: — 1. That a Minister be appointed for Agriculture and Education. 2. That schoolmasters have the privilege of appeal to the District Board against the decision of the local school committee ; and, if not satisfied with the decision of the District Board, have the privilege of an appeal to the head of the Education Department. 3. That the examining and working Standards be uniform for the whole colony, and the working Standards be based on those used iu Britain. 4. That night schools be established in the chief towns and centres of population throughout the colony. 5. That science lectures be delivered m the evenings, at certain times, in our principal cities and large town. These resolutions are not so professional as those that have been published, but they are more colonial, and as practical.—-I am, &c., J. L. Sinclair. Taita, May 8.
