(per pkess agency.) Auckland, Thursday. The Zealaudia has arrived with the outward Australian mails for San Francisco. Gkeymooth, Thursday. The first truck of coal from the Coalpit Heath Company was brought to town yesterday. Two trucks crossed the Brunner bridge safely, but the third truck came to grief, the curve on the bridge being too sharp. This will be repaired to-day, when the bridge will be officially tested and declared open. The coal is of splendid quality. Dunedin, Thursday. The Dunediu Jockey Club last night resolved —" That the Secretary be requested to write to the Secretary of the North Otago Turf Club, aud state that the committee of the Dunediu Jockey Club have taken the decision of the stewards into consideration, but before arriving at a decision as to endorsing
the resolution, the committee would feel obliged if they could be provided with a copy of the evidence taken; also, why Derritt, the rider of Fishhook, was not disqualified; and would like to be informed if any action was taken towards inquiring if' any..other partics were implicated in the conspiracy.'' Rivekton, Thursday.
The Wallace County Council has been 'sitting yesterday and to-day. A warm discussion arose concerning tenders for the Otautauroad, which were opened by. the Hon. Mr.. Nurse, one of the members of the Works Committee, at the office of the Council, in the presence "of the clerk. The proceeding was strongly commented on by Councillors Johnson and Mcintosh, other two members of the committee, who wished them opened at Otautau. The matter was finally settled by the tenders being considered by the whole Council, and that of John Ford for £530 was accepted. £260 was voted for the road from Riverton to Wallacetown, £SO for the road from Winton to Wrey's Bush, £250 to the main road Riverton to Otautau. The Western Star, was appointed Wallace County ..Gazette. Notice of motion was given that the chairman should be paid- a salary of £2OO per annum, and that £SOO be expended on the! road from Riverton to Orepuki. Considerable progress has been made with raising the Express during the past few days, and it is expected they will get her pumped out by to-morrow.
