BOARD OF COLLEGE GOVERNORS.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board o£ College Governors was held at the Education Board office yesterday at noon. There were present—Messrs. Bunny (in the chair), Brandon, Buckley, Jackson, and the Eev. Mr. Paterson. The minutes of the last ordinary meeting were read and confirmed, as also those of the special meeting re the whipping case. bank account. The Secretary submitted the bank account, -.showing that the account had been overdrawn /£506 3s. Id., after paying all salaries up to the Ist of the present month. RESERVES. The Secretary read some correspondence with the Government re the College reserve grants, and stated that to the last letter sent by him he had received no reply. Therefore, it was decided that nothing could be done with regard to the matter until an answer should be received. HATES. With regard to the valuer’s assessment of College property, the Secretary stated that

jhe had written to the Corporation giving notice of the intention of the Board to object 1 on the ground that the property was not within 1 the city boundary. • • It; ijeiiiw suggested that an objection as to ) the valuation being too high should be entered, Mr. Buckley pointed out that the only objection that coidd be taken was that of which the Secretary had given notice. The Board resolved that the solicitor should be instructed to attend with the Secretary at the next sitting of the Assessment Court. ' MR. CLAYTON'S APPLICATION'. The next business considered was the application of Mr. Clayton for; permission to subdivide an allotment which he had leased from the Board. After a short discussion it was resolved that the matter should be referred to the Board’s solicitor. GRANT IN AID. A letter from the Colonial Secretary was read to the effect that the Government would continue the grant of £ISOO a year in aid of the College up to 15th June next. HIGHER EDUCATION. Mr. Paterson’s motion relative to the establishment of a special University class in connection with the College was postponed till next meeting. FINANCE. The Board then requested representatives of the Press to withdraw while they considered the Finance Committee’s report. There was no other business.
