THE HUTT AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION

The first show of the above society will be held on Wednesday next, the 7th instant, and will comprise horses, cattle, pigs, poultry, agricultural and horticultural implements, and produce. Ameetingof thesociety was held on Friday night, in Valentine’s Railway Hotel, Lower Hutt, at which various reports from sub-com-mittees were received and considered. Some additional correspondence between Mr. George Hunter and the secretary relative to regulation 12 was first discussed, after which several matters relating to special prizes, police, band, special trains, &c., were laid before the meeting. It was decided that the horticultural show be open during the day, and also in the evening, closing at 6 p.m. and opening at 7, when it would remain open till 10 p.m. It was also arranged that produce be received and exhibited in the hall where the. horticultural show is to take place. Owing to many complaints from persons in Wellington and elsewhere that they had not been called upon by the officers or collectors of the society, it was stated that subscriptions would be thankfully received by members of the committee. It was also arranged that luncheon be on the table at two o’clock. The stewards were appointed to meet on Saturday to compile the catalogue, which it- was decided to sell at Is. each; and the final meeting of the committee, preparatory to the show, was fixed for this evening at the Railway Hotel, Lower Hutt, at seven o'clock sharp.'

This show promises to be a decided success, and the manner in which the thing has been worked up reflects the greatest credit on the gentlemen who have chiefly Interested themselves in the movement. There are in all 240 entries, being quite as many as or slightly more than there were at the last big show in the Wairarapa. Oar reporter visited the ground yesterday at the Lower Hutt, the Hon. ‘ Mr. Fitzberbert having kiniily lent his naddock at the rear of Mr. Valentine'. 1 * Hotel. ’Most if not all of the pens have been already put together, and the booth is in coum, of erection, whilst elaborate preparations are being made by Mr. Valentine for the luncheon,, admission to which will be by invitation only. Considering the short time that has elapsed since the movement was first started the society has done wonders, and there is every prospect of it increasing ih strength year by year. We understand that the society contemplate making an effort to obtain the right to show on the racecourse next year, and if that right is obtained, a suitable building for show purposes will be erected, but this, of course, is only in contemplation.
