Reports the wreck of the American schooner Kaosta, of Sacramento, on her passage from Samoa to Leruka. Sailed: Kenilworth, schooner, for Lyttelton. The Court of Enquiry held re wreck of the steamer Halcyon- gave Ita decision to-day, to the effect that the painter of the boat fastened astern of the steamer fouled the propeller, and that blame is attached to some one for this careless act, as in all probability the steamer would haxe cleared the reef had not this accident occurred.-' It appeared from the testimony of witnesses that there was no drunkenness or disorderly conduct-throughout -the voyage, and that the loss of the vessel was sot caused by any wrongful act on the part of-the master or other officer. The certificates of Captain Denehrass, and the engineer, Mr. Moffatt, were retufued to them.

She left Auckland at 5.30 p.m. on the 21st instant, and arrived at Tauranga at 11 a.m. on the 22nd; left at 2 p.m., got into Poverty Bay at 1 stayed there six hours; and reached Napier at 7 a.m. on the '24thVleft again at 5.40 p.m.. and arrived here as above. Experienced light variable winds throughout the passage. We thank Mr. Scott, the purser, for report and files. The Wanaka will proceed south this afternoon. . The s.s. Kangatira from Napier arrived m port yesterday at 2.40 p.m. She left Napier at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and experienced light N.W. wind to Blackhead, where it freshened into a hard breeze, and lasted so till off flat Point, when it again fell light, and continued till arrival, with fine weather. The p.s; Manawatu sailed for Wanganui at 12.15 p\m. yesterday. The s.s. Taxarua, Captain Sinclair, left the Sandridge Ballway Pier, Melbourne, at 11 a.m. on the 14th February, and had fine weather till a'rival at Hobarton at 2p.m. on 16tb .February;,; left at Bp.m.same day, and experienced fine weather, "arriving off ■ Stewart's Island on 20th February, and anchoring In Adventure' Harbor for the night; left next morning at 5 jnerning* and arrived at the Bluff at 7 the same morning;" left the Bluff at 4 p.m., and arrived at Port Chalmers ofc 6 a.m. on 22nd February ; left at 4 p.m. same day r "andexperieneed fine -weather till arrival at Lyttelton at 3 p.m. on,the23rd; sailed at 3 p.m. next day, and arrived here at 11 a.ra. yesterday Experienced fine weather on the coast. The number of passengers who arrived in Wellington during the past week by sea was 461. Of these, 219 came from the United Kingdom, 18 from Australia, 140 from Northern' ports of the colony, and 84 from the South. There entered at the port of Wellington during the past week one steamer and three sailing vessels from the United Kingdom and Australia, of a registered tonnage of 2069 tons, and 16 steamers and sailing vessels from ports in the colony, of 3044 tons. ■ The number of vessels that cleared out during the past weekfcr ports in the colony was 20. Of these, 7 were sailing vessels and 13 steamers, whose tonnage combined amounted to 3660 tons. The heavy N.W. gale which blew in port during the latter part of the past week, lulled down to a fresh breeze on Saturday night, and the following vessels were enabled to sail:—</*ynthia and Hero, for Pelorus Sound ; Buby, for Kaikouraand Walpapa; and Falcon, for Blenheim. The schooner Saucy lass left Peloruß Sound on Friday, end experienced heavy N.W. wind tillarrlval here yesterday morning. • The Stella returned to port yesterday evening. She left here last week, and ran over to Cape Campbell, but the wind and sea were too heavy to land; went on to the Brothers, but here a heavy gale was found blowing; she was then headed for Mana Island, where a lighthouse-keeper was landed. P.emained at anchor under there till yesterday morning, when she. ran over to the Brothers and landed cargo; then went down to Cape Campbell and took a lighthouse-keeper. and family on board and cams on for this port, arriving as above. The Union Company's a.s. Wakatlpu, Captain Cameron, arrived in KarbOr on Saturday night at. 8.30, from the South. She left Port Chalmers at 3.40p.m. on the 22nd, and arrived at Lyttelton at 9.30 a.m. on the 23rd ; left at 10 o'clock same night, arriving as above Experienced'fre«h\N.B. winds to Lyttelton,' from 'tneace strong northerly gale. She tailed for (Sydney at noon yesterday.
The Star of the South from Napier and the Last Coast ports arrived here yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock, having left Napier at 11 o'clock the previous The s.s. Stormbird left Wanganui at 7.15 p.m. on Saturday ; crossed the bar at S p.m., and arrived in harbor at 7.30 a.m. yesterday. Experienced moderate N.AV. wind throughout. The Stormbird will return to Wanganui this afternoon. , T n n .. The s.s. Tui sailed for Kaikoura and Lyttelton at 7 o'clock last evening. .. »„»,.-« The steamer Agnes has come alongside the whan, where she will tranship the telegraph cable from tlie Adamant. . . . „. ~~n The s.s. Tui left Foxton on the 23rd inst. at 3.30 p.m., and arrived in port at 1.30 a.m. on the -4th. The Hawea from the North arrived in port on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, having left Picton at 9 o'clock that morning. She proceeded South at u o'clock same evening. ■
