The three wickets fell for 5 runs; and Eyncb, after . making two, was caught by Selby off Emmett for two. Four wickets for thirteen. Rees than took the bat, and it was hoped be would retrieve matters. He got three together, when Emmett sent - Yates a trimmer, and he retired without in-creasino-the score. Mumford then went in. Rees elded one towards U 1 yett, who caught him. Seven • wickets.-for nineteen. Robinson filled the gap, but the bowling of ‘Southerton and Emmett —was- evidently too good for Auckland. Em- ' xnett’s first ball levelled Robinson’s stump. Eight wickets for nineteen. ‘ An adjournment was then made for the lunch. The Mayor was in the chair, and Mr. ' Barstow, RM., was vice-chairman. After the ■Usual patriotic t-asts, the Mayor proposed the toastof “The All-England Eleven.” Lillywhite ■ ’ responded, and advised continual practice.; He ■ expressed regret that. the Auckland public did not adequately support the Cricket Club. He ' ' then proposed the toast of “ The Auckland . Team.” Robinson responded, and said Auck—land would never-be - able to play with an : English Eleven until it got instruction from a ■ ,professional player, and he hoped the ■ time would come when they would have such aid. ■ Pdbley also spoke. Bennett - said the attendance was not so large as he had expected, hut he was well satisfied with the: hospitality of the Aucklanders, and hoped they would he as well treated elsewhere. -v After lunch play was resumed.
