RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.
The first meeting of the Rifle Association this season took place yesterday at the Polhill’s Gully Range. Unfortunately the weather was not by any means favorable, as a strong wind was blowing during the day. However, considering the circumstances mentioned, some of the scores made were exceptionally good. The result of the firing was as follows: FIRST MATCH. The first match was commenced at 9 o’clock, the distances being 200, 300, and 400 yards. TTip fnllnwino* nnnrpa wato rnarlp*—
- xne louowing are tne nve mgnest aggregate scorers, the two first taking £2 and £1 prizes:— Ist. J. W. Ballinger, 97 ; 2nd. C. Bannister, 97 ; 3rd. Mclntosh, 94 ; 4th. J. Turner, 93 ; sth. Lieutenant Ballinger, 90. The first four of the aggregate scores, we may state, are volunteer representatives to compete in the forthcoming Interptovincial Rifle Match. THIRD .MATCH. This was a scratch match at 400 and 500 yards, for a sweepstake of ss. each, the following being the five highest scorers:—Mclntosh, 33 ; Lancaster, 31 ; Chadfield, 30 ; C. Bannister, 30 ; Lieut. Ballinger, 30. The asterisk marks designate the winners of range prizes of 10s. each in the two first matches, PRIZES. The following are the prizes won :—First match—l, suit of clothes, Mr. Simeon, £6 10s.; 2, album, Barraud and Son, £2 10s. and 10s.; 3, cruet, Rowlands and Co., £1 10s.; 4, silver mug, Shaw and Son, £1 ; 5, cigar case, Mr. Dutton, £1 ; 6, “ Reynolds’ Miscellany,” Mr. Watt, 135.; 7, silver mug, Mr. Asher, 12s. 6d.; 8, work-box, Mr. J.
