THE DRAINAGE OF WELLINGTON.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sib,—A gieat deal has been written and said upon the subject of the drainage of Wellington ; many systems have beeD suggested and discussed, but I feel confident a more satisfactory .and economical one could not be than drainage into the harbor. Those who so strongly object to this will please tell me for how many centuries the Thameß received the drainage of London and suburbs before it became polluted, and the millions upon millions of people supplying the materials of such drainage. I take it that when the projected reclamations are completed, .the Thames cannot be compared to our noble harbor for such a purpose; and if at any time the up-wash should be found offensive, reclaim some more land, which I maintain would be found remunerative, and so keep the sewage under water, which would tend to deodorise and destroy the solid matter. An easy system for flushing the drains might be adopted by damming up the creek below the reservoir and letting the water into the drains from Willis, Cuba, and other streets at the upper end of the town. Hoping these suggestions may be deemed worthy of consideration by our City Council, — I am, &c, Londoner.
