A WORD IN SEASON.

Sir, Will you kindly ventilate in your valuable journal as follows:—I was passing the steam laundry on the Adelaide-road, near site of new hospital, two days ago. T noticed that a brick drain is being constructed from the front of the laundry to about fifty yards below it. : This small ditch takes off the surface water of the neighborhood, which is of a very swampy nature. I have observed that thedranv in < question was becoming more greasy looking week by week since the laundry has been at work, and they have now found out it is beginning to stinkl I would suggest to you what will be the state of the Adelaide-road with two laundries discharging greasy soapsuds iiito a'sluggish stream, that takes itjs course, for two miles to the sea through the centre o£ that part of the town. Greasy soapsuds are the worst form of sewage and .the most unwholesome. I' would advise that all factories should be obliged to/disinfeet their, dirty.water, and none but clean should be allowed to pass from these establishments. 1 The covered drain that I have ailuded to 's only a method of passing on the nuisance ' to the neighbors in a more concentrated form.
