CAMBRIDGE LOCAL EXAMINATIONS.

The minutes of the' last meeting were read audeoufirmed.

The Secretary then read the following report :■ —" ' • “ The Cambridge Local Examinations were held. for. the firet time in Wellington in'Decemher 1375. Twenty-five candidates had entered their names, but of these only twenty-two presented themselves "for examination as under' •

The proportion for the ; .whole examination, including over 2500 boys, being 55, per cent.; while of the girls only one passed out of eight,, the proportion for England per cent, out'of a total of about 1000. . , . ; “All the girls who failed, failed in arithmetic, and two of the, boys were plucked from, the same reason; the others all passing the comof the examination, which comprises reading, dictation,, English grammar, and arithmetic.

, “The total receipts from fees last year were £37 Ips., and the expenses £35 14s. 4d., thus leaving a credit balance of £1 15s, Sd. . '; “For this year’s examination only 12 candidates have entered, and all of these are from the Wellington College; but a good many girls are preparing for next year, arid it. is to be hoped that when the success of this examination is more generally known, the, interest in it will increase.”

It was then, proposed by Mr. Gisborne, seconded by Mr. Graham, and' carried, — That -the report be adopted, and, that it be communicated to the papers. The-meeting tfien- adjourned.
