ARTILLERY PRACTICE.
' The Volunteer Artillery Corps and Cadets turned out in force on Saturday afternoon for practice at Evans Bay; - They left the ' drillshed about half-past one, arriving at the range a little after two. His Excellency the Governor iand suite.were'!in attendance ;by half-past' two; when the firing immediately commenced.! . There was;.a large attendance of the public, who watched-the firing throughout i with great interest. The practice was carried . ton under the • Government Rules for /Artillery and Naval Volunteers, the corps being divided into detachments, and points being counted as follows :r —L)ii ect hit, j.2 points ; hit on ricochet/; 6 points ; within 10 yards, right or left, 2, points; and ties to be fired off shot for shot. The. shooting was very goqd, excellent ’ practice being made—in fact better than has ever been the case. Corporal Diamond carried off the palm, scoring poults every time ; but all did well. His Excellency expressed his unqualified satisfaction, with the result, and paid both men and, cadets a .very high l compliment';' s The practice came, .to a close about half-past'4 o’clock','wheri'un-; fortunately for all parties- a' 'heavy storm icaihe , on, which rather damped the ardour, of the spectators, although the men' rather seemed to like.it.
