VICTORIAN RACING CLUB SPRING MEETING. BY TELEGRAPH Melbourne, Tuesday. One hundred thousand people were present at the races to-day ; and the' hill, grand stand, lawn, and course presented a splendid spectacle. His Excellency Sir George Bowen, and the Governors of New South Wales and South' Australia, were present. The following events were decided:— MAIDEN PLATE. A sweepstakes of 10 sovs., b.’ft., with 200 added. For three-year-olds and upwards. Weight for age. One mile and a half. H, Phillips’b f Adelaide, 3 years 1* E. K. Cox’s b c FernhUl. 8 years ~ .. 2 RAILWAY STAKES. A sweepstakes of 5 sevs. each, with 100 added. For three-year-olds and upwards. Weight for age. Winner of any race .(not a handicap) of the value of 100 sots, to carry Tibs, extra; if two or more snch races, lilbs. extra. One mile and a quarter. Sir H. Robinson’s b f Queen’s Head, 8 years .. 1 ■ KENSINGTON STAKES. A sweepstakes of 10 sovs.v. h. ft., with 200 added. For two-year-olds—colts, Bst. 61bs.; fillies, Bst. The winner to be sold for 300 sovs. Five furlongs. K. Sovior’s br c SaJlsbmy, by Tim Whiffler— Jess ca X MELBOURNE CUP. A gold cup, pro-entod by Mr. James Blackwood, chairman of the Victoria Racing Club, and a sweepstakes of 20 sovs. each, 10 ft., or 5 if declared, with 600 added. The winner of any handicap race of the value ol 200 sovs . after the declaration of the weights, to carry 61bs. extra; of two or more such races, Slbs. extra: of any such race of the value of 100 sovs., Slbs. extra; of two or more such races.
