THE DUTIES OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND SYNOD.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. ; Sib, —A number of letters Have appeared in: your paper concerning the refusal of the Diocesan Synod to organise a Church of England Temperance Society, and all have been written under a misapprehension. as to the duties of the Diocesan Synod. 1 ‘ Your correspondents may rest'assured that the cause of temperance possesses no stronger supporters than are to be found among the 1 clergy and laity of the Church of England throughout the world ; but the Synods of the Church exist for the purpose of supporting and extending the Church, and have nothing whatever to do with any organisation outside the Church. They have no more power to organise a temperance association than to start a co-operative store—l am, &0., A Stnodskan.
