A meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Committee was held last night, when a resolution was passed that the statement respecting mismanagement of the hospital, as reported in the Masterton News of 25th inst., [was quite untrue, and that great credit was due to the custodian and medical men for their promptness in admitting Medley (since deceased) into the hospital. Christchurch, Friday. The Canterbury Fire Brigades have decided! not to compete at Dunedin, because the majority of replies from other provinces are unfavorable to joining in the competition. . Dunedin, Friday. It having been stated that the insurance offices refuse to pay to the South British the amount of its re-insurances on the loss of the Czarewitch, the Guardian says :—“ We understand that the South British never raised any objection to the payment of the poliey on the loss of the vessel, but was warned by the other companies that its doing so would prejudice the case pending between the underwriters and the Superintendent. In accordance with ! such request the South British refrained from paying until the case was decided, but thereupon forthwith paid over a cheque for the full amount. Now the other four companies refuse to pay their quota, and it is reported that in case the South British presses for payment, a ring will be formed by the other insurance ! companies, with the object of refraining from; doing any kind of business with the South British.” Port Chalmers, Friday. .. Allen and Street, contractors for the Fort i section of the Dunedin and Moeraki railway, | have been sued for .£l9O for damage done to Banchoff and Compan’s sawmill, caused by a fall of earth and stones. Judgment was given for the plaintiffs, the magistrate remarking, that the Government were clearly, liable to the: contractors.' • . -•
