Arawata arrived liere at 7.30 a.m. oh Saturday, She left Melbourne at 6 p.m. . on the 12th .instant, with. the Suez mall and a full complement of passengers and cargo for New Zealand ; cleared Port Phillip Heads at 8.35 p.m., and passed ithodondo Island at G. 30 a.m. on the following day. Encountered a strong south-east wind and heavy head sea during the first four days of the passage, and a light northerly wind from thence to making the land. Passed the Solander at 6 p.m. on the 17th, and anchored off the Bluff at 11 p.m. same day; steamed up the harbor on the following morning, and'moored at the wharf at dam. Left again at 4 p.m., and arrived • at Port. Chalmers at 5 a.m. on the 19th : sailed at 6,20 the same afternoon, and reached Lyttelton.at 7.50 a.m. on the 20th ; left again at 6.30 p.m. same day, and arrived here as above. We thank Mr. L. C. Miller (purser) for flies and report. The Arawata , sailed again at 10 p.m, on Saturday with a number of excursionists for Nelson,; where she arrived at 9.30 a.m. yesterday, leaving again at 11.45 a,tu. She cleared the French Pass at 2 p.m., and arrived here at 8 o’clock last night. The topsail schooner Young Dick, Captain E. Armit, arrived here on . Saturday afternoon, after a long passage from Hobarton of three weeks, caused by the-prevalence of light head winds,-with fine weather. She left Hobarton on the 30th ult. -with light westerly winds, cleared the land on October 1 with a fresh northerly breeze, which lasted till the 7th : thence light airs from the eastward and calms prevailed till the 19tb, when a fresh breeze from the eastward sprang up, with which she made the land next day. Beat through the Strait against’ strong easterly windi-made Pencarrow light at 4 o’clock on Saturday morning, when the wind ’ fell light to the S.E. and brought her into port, arriving as above. Eeports sighting several sperm whales on Friday off; Kapitl. They were also seen on Saturday morning at Sinclair Head. The Young Dick as usual brings a cargo of Tasmanian produce lor her owners, Messrs. Beck and Tonks. . The s.s. Murray, from Nelson, arrived here at 11 a.m. on Saturday. She left there at 6,30 p.m.’ on Friday, and experienced a strong S.E. gale'across the Strait. She will sail for Nelson and the West Coast to-day.
