SALE OF LAND AT THE HUTT.

. Messrs. Bethuue and Hunter held their sale of the Alioetown township, which is situate at the Lower Hutt, at'their salerooms, Custom House-quay, on Monday afternoon, October 9th. There was a large and influential attendance. The proposed township adjoins the Hutt river, being bounded'a,t the northern, end by Mr. Valentine’s property, and is only a short distance from the railway station. The conditions of sale were ■ most liberal, one-third of the purchase money being paid down, the balance being covered by acceptances at sir, twelve, and eighteen months, bearing interest at 7 per cent per annum, power being given to purchasers to retire the acceptances at any time, a rebate of interest being allowed. Mr. Hunter remarked that it would be unnecessary to describe the property, as it was well known to all. ■ Lots 1,2, 3 were first offered, and realised 815 each, Mr.. B. Back being declared the purchaser. Lots 4,5, 6, 131, and 130 were knocked down to Mr. Shrimski, M.H.8., at £l4. The biddings for lots 127, 128, and 120 commenced at £l4, and reached £lO, becoming the property of Mr. Alison D. Smith. Lots 123 to 126 inclusive were put up at £lO, and went for £ls each to Mr. Jobson. Lot. 11 was knocked - down t» Mr. A. D. Smith for £2O, and lot 12 realised a similar price, Mr. O’Sullivan being the purchaser. , Lots 13 and. 14 . were offered and •withdrawn,; but afterwards put up- again. Lots 26 to 32 inclusive realised £ls each, being bought by Mr. Buckley. Lots 101 to 180 inclusive-were purchased by Mr. Stout at £l4 10s. each. Mr. Shrimski acted as bidder for Mr. Stout, aud Mr. Hunter characterised it as a miserable bid. „ Mr. .Shrinjski requested that the words.might be taken down, but Mr. Hunter informed him that’he was out. of the jurisdiction of the Speaker. Lots 159 to 166 were knocked down to Mr. Kempthorne at £l4 each, and the reserve with buildings thereon was put up together with lots 50 and 51, and withdrawn.- Lots. 109 to 112 inclusive realised £l2 each, passing to Mr. Macginity. Mr.' Larnach,. M.H.K., was the purchaser of lota 192 to 196 inclusive at the price of £l3 each, and lots 13 and 14 on being re-offered realised £l6 each, being bought by Messrs. A. D. Smith and O’Sullivan. Lots 175 to 182 passed to Mr. Kempthorne, and the sale came to a close. Mr. Hunter then congratulated his friends from'.down South who, notwithstanding all that was said to the contrary, had such faith as to invest their capital in Wellington.
