TELEGRAPHIC NEWS.
(PEB PRESS AGENCY.) Napier, Friday. Tenders are invited for reclamation and formation of streets in Napier town swamp. Tenders are to bo opened at noon of November 1. The skull and other portions of a human body were found yesterday in Scully’s gully by workmen who were quarrying stone for Napier harbor works. They were buried about a foot under the surface—supposed to be Maori. It is evident from the decayed state of the bones that the body must have lain buried there many years. At the Volunteer parade last evening a letter from Mr. Close was read by Captain Routledge, suggesting, that the corps should form a fire brigade. It was agreed that the corps should give co-operation and assistance at fires to protect property and preserve order, but not act as salvage corps.
