We would direct attention to a passage in our tolegraphic news in this issue. The substance of a leading article which appeared in yesterday morning's Oljffo Guardia?!, has been sent to us by tho Press Agency. It treats of Sir Julius Yodel's acceptance of tho Agent-General-ship, and is written in a spirit of high-

toned justice to a political opponent that cannbt-be too much admirecl. It will be seen that the,, .Wellington correspondent of the. Otago Guardian took upon himself to telegraph to' that: -journal a totally in-, correct statement as to the general feeling of the public here on Sir Julius Vogel s resignation. Because one evening paper chooses to heap the coarsest abuse on the late Premier,, is no reason why the feeling of the Wellington people should be taken as adverse to the man whose policy and exertions have made New Zealand what it is. The Guardian, of all the papers which have bitterly opposed Sir Julius "Vogel, has done the right thing at the right time, has displayed a generosity as becoming as it is timely, and has effectually rebuked its fellows, who seem to know no feelings but those of personal hate or unqualified revenge. We have ourselves, in the face of the manly and outspoken utterance of our Dunedin contemporary, not one word to write. Whilst we deny many of his assertions, we are so united in his conclusion that we prefer that conclusion should be stated by an honorable enemy than put forward even in the best of good faith by ourselves.
