NELSON REGATTA.
The first event on the programme was the Champion Whaleboat Race.—Distance, 5 miles, in which four competed, viz.:—
■ The four boats started fairly, and kept well together for the first mile, when the Thistle drew gradually ahead, closely followed by the Cure ; the former winning by some distance, Cure second. This was an exciting and interesting race. The Pair-oaked Race was next, which resulted as follows : Wellington Bowing Club's Anonyma .. 1 Star Club's Hebe .. .. .. 2 Petford's Kipple .. .. .. 3 Three boats started. The Anonyma, pulled by Woods and Moore, took the lead throughout, and won with the greatest ease. Amateur Whaleboat Race.—Distance, 3 miles.
out trouble. First-class Yacht Eace.—Distance, 8 miles. There were four entries for this race, including the well-known Red Jacket, which has proved herself not able to compete in Nelson waters, she having made a bad show at last. Cross's Minnehaha took the lead throughout, and carried it to the end, winning by about two miles, the other competitors being Treeman's Star, and Hurley's Lightning. Four-oahed Eace.— r Distance, 3 miles. Star Club's Queen Mab .. .. ... 1 Star Club's Star .. .. ..2 Taylor's Anonymous .. .. .. 0 There was some mystery about this race, which we are not able to clear up. Suffice it to say that the Wellingtonians had it all their own way.
Kelson Club's Thistle .. .. .. 1 Wellington Rowing Club's Cure .. .. 2 Star Club's Titokowaru .. .. ..3 Taylor's Colonist .. .. ... 0
