NELSON REGATTA.

The first event on the programme was the Champion Whaleboat Race.—Distance, 5 miles, in which four competed, viz.:—

■ The four boats started fairly, and kept well together for the first mile, when the Thistle drew gradually ahead, closely followed by the Cure ; the former winning by some distance, Cure second. This was an exciting and interesting race. The Pair-oaked Race was next, which resulted as follows : Wellington Bowing Club's Anonyma .. 1 Star Club's Hebe .. .. .. 2 Petford's Kipple .. .. .. 3 Three boats started. The Anonyma, pulled by Woods and Moore, took the lead throughout, and won with the greatest ease. Amateur Whaleboat Race.—Distance, 3 miles.
