WELLINGTON C.C. V. THE STAR C.C. The first annual match between these two rival clubs was played on the Basin Reserve ground on Saturday last, the day being extremely dull, which may possibly account for the Stars not shining with their usual brilliant lustre. However, some very good cricket was displayed on both sides. For the Wellingtonians Messrs. Knapp and Parriugton made good scores, the former gentleman showing some fine hitting, while the latter played a very careful innings for his 41. It was somewhat late when the Stars went to the wickets, and consequently it was quite thought they would make a draw of it, and possibly they might have done so but for the absence of two of their batsmen, who on the fall of the seventh wicket were not to the fore.
