From Port Chalmers to Lyttelton had light N.E. winds and northerly swell; thence to Heads, strong N. W. winds and heavy sea. The s.s. Kiwi, Captain J. Campbell, arrived in port at 5.20 a.m. yesterday, from Flaxburn, which place she left at 7.30 p.m. on Sunday. The captain of the three-masted schooner Ceera which recently grounded in the Wanganui River, reports in Hobarton unfavorably of the river. [ln defence of its stream, the Wanganui Herald says Considering that the vessel is totally unfit for the port, and that the verdict at the inquiry before the Commissioner of Customs attributed his grounding to a lack of caution, we fail to see that Captain Pye has any ground for complaint. Wc have at present two larger vessels, the Falcon and Frank Guy, in port, and both came in without accident." The Wanganui Herald furnishes the following particulars regarding the long talked of Frank Guy :~ “The three-masted schooner Frank Guy, Captain Cain, sailed from Bateman's Bay for Wanganui on the 3rd September, and lost her foretopmast and jibboom on the same day. Bore up for Sydney to replace masts. Left Sydney on the 17th September, with moderate variable winds. Made Cape Farewell on the 27th September. During October, experienced a succession of strong westerly gales. Made for the Wanganui bar three times during the month. Bar too rough, and was obliged to bear up for Guard Bay five times and Kapiti twice. Experienced very stormy weather for the last ten days, arriving in port on the 12th November.”
